Nakuru County is set to resolve long-standing land disputes with Narok County by demarcating their boundary within the next 30 days.
The move comes after a series of clashes between communities in the area, resulting in the loss of tens of lives in the past couple of years.
Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui announced the plan, stating that the county will engage surveyors from both counties to put up beacons on the boundary.
"We shall in 30 days engage surveyors from the two counties to put up beacons on the boundary of the two counties so as to resolve the perennial land disputes," he said.
As part of the effort to resolve the disputes, the county government will also engage with the National Land Commission and the Ministry of Land.
Additionally, the county will address the issue of environmental degradation in the area, which has been identified as a major challenge.
According to the Chief Officer for Lands Judyleah Waihenya, the ad hoc Committee on Ng'ati farm had identified eight gray areas on the Ng'ati land, including fees paid by Kenya Power to former officials and the distribution of land sales proceeds.
