Published on January 12, 2022, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expressed optimism about ongoing contract talks with star forward Mohamed Salah.

Salah, 29, has fewer than 18 months left on his current deal and has reportedly been seeking a weekly salary of over £300,000 ($410,000).

Despite the ongoing negotiations, Klopp remains confident that the Egypt international wants to stay at the Premier League club.

‘I know that Mo wants to stay,’ Klopp said. ‘We want Mo to stay. That’s where we are. It takes time. I think it is in a good place. I’m very positive about it.'

Salah has been a key player for Liverpool, scoring 111 goals in 165 Premier League matches and is on track for a third Golden Boot in five years.

However, Liverpool's owner, the Fenway Sports Group, has been hesitant to hand out lucrative contracts to players once they reach 30, which Salah will do in June.

Klopp, however, believes that Salah can remain at the top well into his mid-30s, citing the examples of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

‘I am as convinced as you can be,’ Klopp said. ‘He is a world-class player, unbelievable player, great boy, did a lot of great stuff for Liverpool. His character, his determination, it’s the way he trains. His attitude, his work-rate is incredible.'
