On July 9, 2019, Vitafoam Products Limited took a proactive step towards ensuring the safety of its employees by organizing a comprehensive fire and safety training programme at its factory on Maasai road off Mombasa road.
The training programme, run by the International Safety Training Centre (ISTC), aimed to educate staff on the best ways to prevent fires and respond effectively in case of an emergency.
According to Sharad Barot, Chief Operations Officer at Vitafoam Products Limited, the company's experience with a catastrophic fire in 2015 taught them the importance of prevention. He emphasized that 'prevention is better than cure' and that workers who are knowledgeable about fire prevention measures contribute significantly to a safer workplace.
Barot also highlighted the importance of proper fire training, stating that 'all are responsible for avoiding fires' and that employees should be able to conduct a fire safety risk assessment, identify the correct fire extinguishers, and respond swiftly in case of a fire.
