Published on July 9, 2019, a report highlighted the growing sex trade in Nairobi's estates, with local pundits identifying areas where the exchange of money for sex is a common occurrence.
From Koinange Street's infamous past to the current hotspots, the sex trade has spread to various parts of the city, with residents raising concerns about the issue.
According to the report, the following areas have been identified as sex trade hotspots:
- Kibera, where sex workers operate near clubs like Garage Pub in Fort Jesus.
- Eastlands, particularly Kayole, where sex workers can be found outside Nyama Vila Club.
- Pipeline in Embakasi South constituency, where sex workers start operating from as early as 8 pm until dawn every day.
- Kawangware, where young girls circle around Bora Bora Hotel, Zebra Bar, Myers Bar and Restaurant, and Mukaro, especially on weekends.
- South B, where the stretch from Tabernacle Church to Capital Centre is known for sex work.
- Hurlingham, where sex workers can be found along Argwings Kodhek Road, notorious for its trendy pubs.
Residents from these areas have expressed concerns about the issue, with some calling for action to address the problem.
