Kenya's national women's volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, is set to begin their Women's African Volleyball Championship campaign against North African giants Algeria, a team they beat in the 2015 finals in Nairobi.
Published on July 9, 2019, the team is hoping to win the title again after losing the 2017 championship to Cameroon in Yaounde.
Head coach Shailen Ramdoo believes that the team has a good chance of winning the title, saying, "We are not underrating any team although we have prepared well, we are not going to underrate any team, sometimes three teams in a group is not enough before the semifinals or the finals but the challenge is competitive enough."
The nine-time African champions, Kenya, are pooled in Group B with Algeria, Botswana, and defending champion Cameroon.
Technical director David Lung'aho is optimistic that the Kenyan girls are ready to take on the challenge, saying, "I believe we are ready we have been in tough training long before we left Kenya, I expect the girls to show it early in the tournament so as to reclaim the title that we lost in 2017."

- Day 1, July 9: 17:00 - Botswana v Cameroon, 19:00 - Kenya v Algeria, 21:00 - Egypt v Senegal
