On January 11, 2022, Rwanda and Mozambique signed a landmark agreement to strengthen their security cooperation, marking a significant step in their joint efforts to combat insurgency in the Cabo Delgado Province.
The agreement, which builds on the six-month-old joint military operations between the Rwandan Defence Force (RDF) and Mozambique's security forces, aims to further weaken the insurgents and facilitate the repatriation of civilians from camps to their homes.
According to Mozambique's military officials, the cooperation is crucial in helping to reform the country's security sector and achieve full stabilisation, ultimately paving the way for the resumption of economic activities.
