January 7, 2022 - Nairobi, Kenya - Businesswoman Agnes Kagure has announced her candidacy for the Governor of Nairobi, vowing to transform the city and improve the lives of its residents.

Speaking at the Kasarani Stadium Gymnasium, Kagure pledged to dedicate her life to making Nairobi a city of 'jubilation' rather than 'lamentation.'

She promised to take the city's askaris, commonly known as 'Kanjo,' back for retraining and review their contracts to create more job opportunities.

"We are going to take the Kanjo back for retraining. We are also going to review their contracts, so we have so many job opportunities that we are going to review," Kagure said.

Kagure, who is seeking the Azimio La Umoja nomination ticket, said she is fed up with how the askaris harass traders and accused of breaking city by-laws.

She laid out a five-point plan agenda, focusing on providing clean water supply, good sanitation, and reliable healthcare services.

"Clean drinking water is a safe bet for better hygiene and access to it has a different impact on the quality of human health. An unhealthy cannot optimise its economic productivity," Kagure said.
