January 7, 2022 - In a recent development, Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi has recovered from Covid-19, while his Botswana counterpart, Mokgweetsi Masisi, remains in isolation.

According to the latest statistics, Mozambique had recorded 203,241 Covid-19 cases, 2,065 deaths, and 165,271 recoveries as of Thursday. In contrast, Botswana had reported 222,053 cases, 2,452 deaths, and 205,004 recoveries.

President Nyusi and his wife underwent PCR tests to confirm their initial Covid-19 results in two laboratories, both of which came back negative, the Mozambique Presidency stated.

Meanwhile, President Masisi continues to self-isolate at his official residence and has not experienced any Covid-19 symptoms, according to a statement issued by John Dipowe, Botswana's acting permanent secretary for communications and information systems.

President Masisi remains under close monitoring by his healthcare team, the statement added.

This development comes after President Nyusi held meetings with President Masisi in Cabo Delgado province in the last week of 2021. President Masisi had tested positive for Covid-19 at the time, as indicated by a statement from his office on January 3.
