On a chilly August morning, businesswoman Agnes Kagure launched her bid to become Nairobi's governor at the Kasarani indoor arena, surrounded by hundreds of supporters.

With a crowded field of candidates vying for the top county job, Kagure is seeking to become one of the few female governors in the country. Her competitors include Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja, former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru, Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, former Dagoretti MP Dennis Waweru, and businessman Richard Ngatia.

A recent poll showed Kagure leading the pack with 27% of the vote, followed closely by Margaret Wanjiru with 22%. The poll also found Kagure ahead in a hypothetical race against Wanjiru, with 49% of the vote to Wanjiru's 43%.

At the launch, Kagure unveiled a 5-point agenda, which includes creating 1 million jobs, improving sanitation, providing clean water, ensuring reliable healthcare, and enhancing security. She also pledged to clean up city hall by getting rid of ghost workers and train county employees on customer service.
