On January 3, 2022, four men allegedly trespassed onto a five-acre piece of land in Karen, Nairobi, which is believed to belong to a top politician in Kenya.
According to the police, Mohammed Mohammud Wako alias Hussein Mohammed, James Owino Opere, Jonah Saluuni Tuuko, and Samakini Lesingiran are suspected of being land fraudsters and may be holding forged title deeds of the land located along Windy Ridge lane in Karen.
The suspects were detained for two days to allow police to complete investigations into the matter, after a court application by Sergeant Lawson Shumu attached to DCI Headquarters land fraud Investigations Unit.
“On 3rd January this year, the suspects entered the parcel of land L. R. No. 1159/88 without authority and started searching for beacons and were suspected to have been planning to sell the land located along Windy Ridge lane Karen to unsuspecting members of the public,” added Sergeant Shumu.
The police were initially seeking to detain the four for seven days, but their lawyer Danstan Omari opposed the application, saying the sought days were too long.
According to the lawyer, his clients claimed the five acres belong to the head of the State.
Senior Resident Magistrate Jane Kamau directed that the suspects be detained for two days at Karen police station after which they shall be released on a cash bail of Sh 30,000 each.
