From Unlikely Beginnings to Marketing Success ¶
Carolyne Kendi, the Head of Brand and Marketing Communications at Safaricom, never thought she'd end up in marketing. Growing up, she dreamed of becoming a doctor or lawyer, but it was a chance encounter with her cousin's impressive bedroom, which was decorated with Unilever products, that sparked her interest in the field.
With no prior knowledge of marketing, Kendi applied for the Unilever Management Trainee Program and began her journey in sales. She spent her days cruising the streets in a pick-up truck, selling products in the markets, and gained a deep understanding of how business works and who the customer is.
Her experience spans across multiple markets in Africa, including East Africa, West Africa, and South Africa, where she drove business growth through creative and strategic thinking on brand management and communication strategy.
