On January 6, 2022, police in Likoni, Mombasa, made a significant breakthrough in their efforts to curb crime in the area. Four youth, aged between 14 and 18, were arrested at Pungu Villa for suspected involvement in a criminal gang that has been terrorizing residents since 2020.
According to Likoni sub-county police commander Joseph Karanja, the suspects were found in possession of 30 mobile phones, a TV set, and laptops, which the police believe were stolen properties. The recovery of these items is a significant step towards bringing justice to the victims of these crimes.
During the arrest, police also recovered uniforms belonging to the National Youth Service, machetes, and metal bars from one of the suspect's house. The suspects, identified as 18-year-old Webuye Ochieng', Issa Salim, 16, Rashid Hamisi, 14, and Brian Yubah, 17, are currently in police custody as investigations continue to establish the owners of the recovered items.
As the police carry out their investigations, residents of Likoni can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that their efforts to combat crime are yielding positive results.
