January 6, 2022, marked a concerning day for Gabon's Africa Cup of Nations campaign as Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang tested positive for Covid-19, according to coach Patrice Neveu.

Aubameyang, along with team-mate Mario Lemina and assistant coach Yala Anicet, underwent a lateral flow test and are awaiting the results of a PCR test.

‘They underwent a PCR test and are isolating in their hotel,' Neveu said, adding that they displayed no symptoms.

Aubameyang, who was stripped of the Arsenal captaincy last month, risks missing Gabon's opening Group C match against Comoros on January 10 in the biennial African showpiece tournament hosted by Cameroon.

They are scheduled to play further matches against Ghana and Morocco.

Gabon enters the finals on the back of a 3-0 defeat by Burkina Faso in a friendly match in Dubai last Sunday.
