On January 6, 2022, China and Kenya took a major step in deepening their economic partnership by signing six memorandums of understanding and agreements on trade, infrastructure, and other sectors.

The agreements were the result of bilateral talks between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Kenyan counterpart, Raychelle Omamo.

During a joint press conference, CS Omamo highlighted the significance of the agreements, stating that they were fundamental to Kenya's development and characterized by a mutual desire to develop both countries.

One of the key agreements included a donation of 10,000 tonnes of rice from China to families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additionally, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a working group aimed at addressing tariffs and non-tariff barriers between the two nations.

Both sides acknowledged the steady rise in bilateral trade and the huge potential to increase export trade volumes and value through addressing these barriers.

China and Kenya also concluded and signed two protocols to facilitate bilateral trade, particularly on the export of avocado and aquatic products to China.
