Truckers plying the Mombasa-Malaba route have been protesting a new Sh3,600 fee imposed by the Ugandan government to test for COVID-19, sparking chaos at the border.

The truckers claim that the new fee is excessive and that they are being unfairly targeted, while their counterparts in Kenya and Rwanda are exempt from paying.

The protest has led to a massive traffic jam of over 80 kilometers from Malaba to Kanduyi in Bungoma County.

According to the truckers, the new fee is a burden on their business and is affecting their ability to transport goods across the border.

The Ugandan government has not commented on the matter, but the truckers are determined to continue their protest until their demands are met.
