Published on January 6, 2022, a nurse in Homa Bay County, Kenya, has raised awareness about the importance of maintaining good hygiene during pregnancy.
Mary, a mother of two, recalls the shock she experienced when a male nurse shaved her pubic hair during her first delivery six years ago.
According to Mary, she had not seen her pubic area for over six months due to her growing belly. The nurse shaved her overgrowth, explaining that it would make the birthing process easier and prevent the spread of bacteria.
Now, a nurse in Homa Bay wants men to take on the responsibility of trimming their wives' pubic hair to prevent vaginal infections.
Sarah Gowi, a nurse at Marindi Sub-County Hospital, suggests that men should take up the task to trim their partners' overgrowth, citing the risk of urinary tract infections (UTIs) in the vaginal area.
Gowi explains that long pubic hair can lead to sweating, itching, and the transfer of bacteria, which can cause infections like UTIs.
She notes that such infections are particularly dangerous for expectant women whose body immunity is low.
Gowi tasks husbands with the responsibility of cutting their wives' pubic hair, arguing that it becomes difficult for an expectant woman to bend and cut her pubic hair at advanced stages of pregnancy.
She believes that men should take on this role to enhance love and intimacy in marriage.
