Published on January 6, 2022, Mohammed Adow, a respected Aljazeera journalist, has thrown his hat into the ring for the Wajir South parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2022 General Elections.
Adow, who has over 20 years of experience in journalism, has been endorsed by the elders of the Makabul clan in Wajir. They believe he is the ideal candidate to unseat the current Member of Parliament (MP) Mohammed Mohamud of the Jubilee Party.
Before seeking the endorsement of the elders, Adow had met with the youth of the area, affirming his commitment to working together with local leaders to drive development in the region. He emphasized the importance of grassroots engagement in development agenda setting.
“This continuous engagement with the people at the grassroots levels is prerequisite in development agenda setting. We deliberated emerging issues within the vast constituency and pursue them in a united front,” Adow stated.
Adow, a Senior Correspondent with Aljazeera, has a wealth of experience, having worked for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) before joining Aljazeera in 2006. He is currently based in Doha, Qatar, and covers news in three continents: Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.
He holds a master’s degree in Media, Communications and Public Relations from the University of Leicester. Before joining Aljazeera English in 2006, Mohammed worked with the BBC World Service for 10 years.
Adow joins a growing list of media personalities who have declared their interests in politics ahead of the 2022 elections, including radio presenter Felix Odiwor alias Jalas, Milele FM’s Alex Mwakideu, and Switch TV Sports host Tony Kwalanda.
