On October 19, 2021, Paris St Germain forward Lionel Messi was spotted celebrating a goal in a match, but little did fans know that he would soon be dealing with a COVID-19 diagnosis.

However, after testing negative for the virus, Messi has returned to Paris and will resume training in the coming days, according to the French Ligue 1 club.

Messi, a seven-times Ballon d'Or winner, had been in Argentina at the time of his diagnosis and missed a French Cup round-of-32 match against Vannes on October 18, 2021, where PSG won 4-0.

Since joining PSG from Barcelona in August 2021, Messi has scored six goals in 16 games in all competitions for the Parisian side.

PSG is currently top of the Ligue 1 standings on 46 points after 19 matches, 13 points above second-placed Nice.

The team is due to travel to host Olympique Lyonnais in Ligue 1 on Sunday.
