On July 8, 2019, the University of Nairobi began a new chapter under the leadership of Prof Isaac Mbeche, who took over as the acting vice-chancellor.
Prof Mbeche's first act was to reshuffle over 100 staff members, a move that has left many in fear of their jobs.
According to staff members, the mass transfers were ordered by Prof Mbeche in an effort to distance himself from the previous administration led by Prof Peter Mbithi.
Prof Mbithi had been accused of corruption by staff members, leading to his forced leave just days before Prof Mbeche's appointment.
Those affected by the reshuffle include Finance Officer Peter Busienei, who was sent on forced leave, and senior administration staff.
Staff members expressed concern over the lack of transparency in the transfer process, with one member saying, "We don't know what criteria is being used to transfer staff."
Others affected include the head of performance contradicting, Mr Leonard Musyoka, who was moved to health sciences, and the senior recruitment officer.
