January 5, 2022 - Mombasa, Kenya - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has begun his two-day official visit to Kenya, as part of his Africa tour that includes Eritrea and Comoros.
Wang's visit is the 32nd such visit by a Chinese Foreign Minister to Africa, demonstrating the importance Beijing attaches to the continent.
Upon arrival at the Moi International Airport in Mombasa, Wang was received by his Kenyan counterpart, Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo.
During his visit, Wang will meet with President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Mombasa, to discuss the implementation of the outcomes of the 8th Ministerial Conference on the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in Dakar, Senegal from November 28th to 30th 2021.
Wang will also hold bilateral consultations and participate in a Ministerial Roundtable Meeting with Omamo and other Cabinet Secretaries.
While in Mombasa, Wang and President Kenyatta are scheduled to inspect the progress of ongoing works at the new Kipevu Oil Terminal (KOT), a project financed by the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and constructed by China Communication Construction Company (CCCC).
The new KOT is an off-shore facility located at the Port of Mombasa, opposite to the existing Kipevu Oil Terminal, and is expected to have four berths capable of handling six different hydrocarbon import and export products.
