NSE Daily Equity Turnover Declines 10% to KSh 344.1 Million

On January 5, 2022, the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) reported a decline in daily equity turnover, falling to KSh 344.1 Million from the previous day's KSh 382.5 Million.

Despite the decline in turnover, the number of shares traded increased to 10.5 Million from 9.5 Million, while the number of equity deals rose to 995 from 799.

The NSE All Share Index closed at 170.67, a 1.43-point increase, while the NSE 20 Share Index fell by 1.77 points to close at 1915.73. The NSE 25 Share Index, however, was up 13.74 points to close at 3801.94.

Top price gainers included Bank of Kigali, which rose 9.26% to KSh 29.50, followed by Kakuzi, which gained 9.09% to KSh 420.00, and Sasini, which increased 6.68% to KSh 19.95.

On the other hand, the worst performers were led by Car & General, which declined 9.87% to KSh 30.60, and Stanlib Fahari Income REIT, which gained 4.75% to KSh 6.02.

Safaricom was the day's biggest mover, with a volume of 6.75 Million shares traded, followed by CIC, Equity, KCB, and KPLC.

The Secondary Bonds market saw a significant increase in turnover, reaching KSh 708.6 Million from 33 deals, compared to the previous day's KSh 209.1 Million from 36 deals.

The Derivatives Market also experienced an increase, with 42 contracts worth KSh 1,652,000 being concluded, compared to the previous day's 6 contracts worth KSh 137,280.
