Kenyan journalist Larry Madowo is leaving the BBC after just a year to pursue a prestigious fellowship at Columbia University's Journalism School in New York City.
According to his Twitter announcement, Madowo will be taking a year-long break from his job to be a full-time student again at Columbia University, where he has been selected for the 44th Knight-Bagehot fellowship in Business and Economics for the 2019-2020 academic year.
With just three weeks left at the BBC, Madowo expressed his excitement to return to academia, tweeting: 'HARD TO BELIEVE THAT I’VE GOT JUST 3 WEEKS LEFT WITH THE BBC BEFORE TAKING A BREAK TO BE A FULL-TIME STUDENT AGAIN AT COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY. NEW YORK CITY, I’LL SEE YOU SOON BUT FOR NOW, NAIROBI, BE NICE TO ME.'
Madowo's journey to journalism has been marked by rapid growth and success, from his humble beginnings to his current role at the BBC.
It remains to be seen whether Madowo will return to the BBC after completing his fellowship, but for now, Kenyans are wishing him the best of luck in his academic pursuits.
