On 3rd January, a militia attack in Widho shopping center left seven people dead, prompting swift action from the government.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has ordered a dusk-to-dawn curfew in affected areas of Lamu, effective from 5th January.
According to CS Matiang'i, the attacks in Widho Sub-location, Majembeni Location of Lamu County have resulted in the loss of seven innocent lives and destruction of private property.
The curfew will be in place in the following areas: Mukunumbi, Majembeni, Ndamwe, Mkunumbi location, Witu division, Pandanguo location, Binde Warinde location, Witu location, Hamas location, Mpeketoni division, Bomani location, Pongwe location, Mpeketoni location, Bahari location, Mapenya location, and Lamu Central Sub-county.
CS Matiang'i also announced the deployment of a multi-agency security team to recover illegal firearms and tighten security measures in the affected areas.
Residents are requested to cooperate with security agencies and share information on suspicious persons and activities.
