January 5, 2022 - Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro has been cleared to leave the hospital, two days after being rushed for emergency treatment of a partial intestinal blockage.

According to a hospital spokesman, Bolsonaro will give a news conference before leaving the Sao Paolo hospital where he was admitted on Monday.

Doctors placed him on a liquid diet and said the blockage had been eliminated, with no need for surgery.

This is the latest in a series of health problems for the far-right leader, who was stabbed in the abdomen during the 2018 election campaign.

Bolsonaro has undergone at least four surgeries stemming from the stabbing, which was perpetrated by a man who claimed he was following God's orders.

As Bolsonaro prepares for elections in October, he faces a tough year ahead in office, with his approval rating at an all-time low and the country battered by one of the world's worst death tolls from Covid-19.
