Organisers of the Africa Cup of Nations, the Confederation of African Football (Caf), have capped attendances at 60-80% of capacity for the tournament in Cameroon, citing the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
According to figures from Our World in Data, just 2% of people in Cameroon have had both jabs, but there has been an increase in the number of people in the country trying to get vaccinated so they can buy tickets for the Nations Cup.
As a result, spectators must be fully vaccinated and present a negative test result in order to attend games. This measure is in addition to the 80% capacity cap for games involving hosts Cameroon and 60% for all other matches.
Cameroon open the tournament against Burkina Faso at the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde, which has a capacity of 60,000, on Sunday.
Coronavirus cases are also affecting teams in the tournament, with several squads reporting positive tests among their players.
Coach Bubista of Cape Verde, one of Cameroon's Group A opponents, has tested positive, and six of their players, including two goalkeepers, are isolating ahead of their match against Ethiopia on Sunday.
Senegal, runners-up in 2019, delayed their departure for the tournament after several of their players tested positive, and other cases are suspected.
Other teams, including Tunisia, have also reported positive cases among their players.
