On January 5, 2022, a crucial amendment was passed by MPs in the National Assembly, allowing coalition parties to deposit their agreements with the Registrar of Political Parties at least 120 days before the August General Election.

The amendment, proposed by Majority Leader Amos Kimunya, aimed to synchronize the timelines for coalition agreements with the nomination of MPs.

Kimunya's amendment faced opposition from MPs allied to Deputy President William Ruto, who attempted to block the motion. However, Temporary Speaker Jessica Mbalu intervened, ordering the Sergeant at Arms to provide a cordon around Kimunya to prevent further disruptions.

House Speaker Justin Muturi had earlier introduced electronic voting for the three-day special sitting, following chaos and near-fistfights among MPs during the previous sitting.

Kimani Ichungwah, a Kikuyu MP, raised concerns about technical difficulties with voting gadgets, claiming that Langata MP Nixon Kiror and Kiambu County Woman Rep Gathoni Wamuchomba were unable to vote. However, Mbalu clarified that the IT team's print-out confirmed that both MPs had indeed voted.
