Matiang'i Declares Lamu County Disturbed Areas, Imposes Curfew

On January 5, 2022, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i declared parts of Lamu County as Disturbed Areas due to insecurity incidents that left seven people dead.

The National Security Council ordered a 30-day dusk-to-dawn curfew in the affected areas, which include Lamu West Sub County, Witu Division, and Mpeketoni Division.

According to Section 106 (1) of the National Police Service Act, 2011, the National Security Council has the authority to declare areas as Disturbed and impose curfews.

Residents in the affected areas are requested to cooperate with security agencies and share information on suspicious persons and activities.

Additionally, a multi-agency security team has been deployed to mop up illegal firearms and activities in the affected areas.
