January 5, 2022 - Huawei has launched an ambitious initiative to train 700,000 new ICT professionals in Africa by 2023, in partnership with top universities and colleges across the continent.

The program, which aims to increase academia collaboration with the ICT industry, has already attracted over 80,000 passionate ICT students from 70 countries over the past five years.

Under the theme of “Connection, Glory, Future”, Huawei has invited bright university students to test their talents through an intense assessment, with the goal of identifying and nurturing the next generation of ICT leaders.

Kenyan students, including those from the University of Nairobi, are among the 15,000 students participating in the assessment, which includes designing and building innovative solutions on Huawei technological platforms, including the Cloud.

The program also serves as a platform for talent placement, with 350 students having succeeded in getting jobs over the last five years.

Kenyan students will be looking to maintain the winning streak set in 2020 by the Mazingira Team from Kenya, which presented a solution called ‘Wildfire PrediTec’ designed and built on Huawei IoT and AI platforms to detect, analyze, predict and prevent wildfires.

The Sub Saharan Africa finals are scheduled for February 2022, while the global finals will take place in May 2022.
