Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has announced new appointments to his presidential campaign team, aiming to bolster his drive for the top seat.
Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi has been named the chairperson of Raila's campaign board, a position he will hold going forward, according to former KTN anchor Dennis Onsarigo.
Onsarigo confirmed the appointment, stating, "I can confirm that Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Murithi will lead the campaign's from now going forward."
Raila revealed the reason for picking Muriithi, citing his experience in the financial markets and over 29 years of experience in leadership and management.
"Governor Murithi was instrumental in the drive to have the derelict Nairobi-Nanyuki and Gilgil-Nyahururu railway lines rehabilitated," Raila stated. "He is the current finance, planning, and economic affairs committee chairperson of the Council of Governors elected in January 2021."
Muriithi was elected governor in the August 2017 general election, winning the race as an independent candidate after failing to clinch the Jubilee Party nomination ticket.
Before that, he served as Laikipia west and Assistant Minister for Industrialisation between 2007 and 2013 in Kibaki's government, where his tenure was characterised by improved incentives promoting investments and setting a conducive environment in the country for doing business.
Elizabeth Meyo, an IMF consultant, has also been appointed as the campaign's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and secretary to the board.
Meyo has over three decades of administrative and strategic experience, having served as the immediate former Commissioner of the Domestic Taxes Department at Kenya Revenue Authority.
"She spearheaded the rollout of iTax which has revolutionized revenue collection in Kenya," Raila stated.
As the overall chief executive of the campaign, Meyo will implement its strategic and key decisions, head the campaign secretariat, and make all vital decisions, serving as the sole campaign spokesperson.
