Interior PS Karanja Kibicho has dismissed claims of a plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto as nonsense, saying there is no credible intelligence to support the allegations.
Speaking on July 8, 2019, during the launch of a water project in Shauri Moyo, Nairobi, Kibicho said the claims were baseless and had been fueled by politics and misinformation in the media.
"Naskia kuna njama ya kutekeleza mauaji... nani amelalamika? Sijaskia malalamishi yoyote rasmi. Hayo mengine ni upuzi mtupu na porojo. Tuwacheni kusema maneno ambayo hayapo," Kibicho said.
He added that the Interior Ministry had not received any official reports of a plot to assassinate Ruto and that the claims were being used to create unnecessary panic.
Earlier, several Cabinet Secretaries, including Peter Munya, Sicily Kariuki, Joe Mucheru, and Kames Macharia, had visited the DCI headquarters to be questioned about the alleged plot.
The claims emerged after a letter was circulated online claiming that a meeting had been held in a Nairobi restaurant to plan the assassination.
Already, Dennis Itumbi, who works in the Deputy President's office, has been arrested and charged with publishing the letter.
