Published on January 5, 2022, KCB's victory over Mathare United at the Kasarani Annex marked a significant turn of events in the FKF Premier League standings.

With the win, KCB moved to 25 points, tying with Kakamega Homeboyz, who suffered a 1-0 loss to FC Talanta at home.

Meanwhile, Bandari secured a third-place spot after a late 1-0 win over Sofapaka in Wundanyi, while Kariobangi Sharks and Kenya Police FC also secured victories against Ulinzi Stars and Vihiga Bullets, respectively.

At the Kasarani Annex, Mathare United had the best chances of the game, with Eugene Wethuli missing a crucial opportunity in the 14th minute.

However, it was KCB who capitalized on their chances, with Derrick Otanga scoring the lone goal in the 74th minute after substitute James Mazembe's shot was saved by Mathare's keeper.

The win marked a significant shift in the standings, with KCB taking the top spot in the FKF Premier League.
