Deputy President William Ruto has dismissed the narrative of a 'deep state' controlling the country's politics, assuring Kenyans that they have the final say in electing their leaders.
Speaking in Kakamega and Bungoma Counties, Dr Ruto said the existence of a 'deep state and system' is a fallacy that should be dismissed.
"I am the Deputy President. I want to assure you that there is nothing like 'deep state and system'. It's voters who decide on their leaders from the grassroots to the presidency," Dr Ruto said.
He warned against plans to create an 'imperial president' through unconstitutional changes, saying that some wealthy individuals want to force Raila Odinga on the country.
Dr Ruto said the constitutional changes being instituted in Parliament are aimed at controlling the three independent arms of the Government.
"This is why I ask Kenyans to support UDA leaders because we respect all Kenyans and their hustle," Dr Ruto said.
The Deputy President addressed wananchi in several locations in Bungoma and Kakamega Counties, urging them to shun political arrangements based on tribal and regional parties.
