On January 4, 2022, the High Court of Kenya ruled that the government's directive to require citizens to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination in order to access essential services was unlawful.

Justice Antony Mrima made the ruling after being informed by lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui that some citizens were being denied essential services, including healthcare, for failing to provide proof of vaccination.

Mr. Kinyanjui alleged that some citizens had been denied healthcare services at major pharmacies, including Supa, after failing to provide proof of vaccination.

Justice Mrima declined to comment on the allegations but ordered five cases challenging the government's directive to be consolidated and heard on February 1, 2022.

It is worth noting that the government's directive to require proof of vaccination was issued on December 14, 2021, by Justice Mrima.
