January 5, 2022 - Deputy President William Ruto has dismissed the notion of a 'deep state' influencing Kenya's upcoming presidential elections, assuring voters that they hold the power to choose their leaders.

Speaking in Kakamega and Bungoma Counties, Dr. Ruto stated that the narrative surrounding the existence of a 'deep state and system' is a fallacy that should be disregarded.

“I am the Deputy President. I want to assure you that there is nothing like 'deep state and system'. It’s voters who decide on their leaders from the grassroots to the presidency,” Dr. Ruto said.

He emphasized that it is impossible for a small group of wealthy individuals to dictate the country's leadership, stating that such a notion is a mere attempt to maintain the status quo.

Dr. Ruto also warned against plans to create an imperial president through unconstitutional changes, claiming that this is an attempt to control the three independent arms of government and maintain the wealth of a select few.

He urged Kenyans to support UDA leaders, who he said respect all citizens and their hard work, and to reject any plans that would keep them at the mercy of the ruling class.

Dr. Ruto's remarks were echoed by several MPs present at the event, who criticized Opposition leader Raila Odinga for misusing the western Kenya voting block and failing to initiate development projects for the region.
