Kenya Airways is poised to revolutionize the transportation of fresh produce from Kisumu to the global market, following a successful test run on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

The airline's inaugural flight, scheduled for January 8, 2022, will operate twice a week, marking a significant milestone in the region's economic growth.

According to Valentine Muruli, the Airways' head of quality control, the airline is committed to ensuring that all exported produce meets the required standards. 'Just assure everyone in Kenya that the airline is committed and ready to open up Kisumu for cargo,' he said.

Speaking at the cold storage facility next to the airport, Muruli emphasized the airline's readiness to work closely with government agencies to guarantee the quality of exported produce.

The test run was attended by officials from the Kenya Revenue Authority, Ministry of Health, and Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Services (KEPHIS), among others.

Edward Ouko, Chairman of Kisumu Lakefront Development Corporation (KLDC), assured that the region's farmers are ready to start exporting fresh produce, with a promise that 'anything that will leave here on the 8th will be quality assured.'

Joseph Ayieko, head of KEPHIS in Kisumu County, also assured of the agency's readiness to ensure that exported produce meets the required standards.
