This archive report was first published on 5 January 2022.

On January 5, 2022, Nicholas Bundi, a determined brother, set out on a treacherous 276.6-kilometre journey from his home in Meru County to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi.

His mission: to raise awareness and pressure the DCI to provide answers on the disappearance of his brother, Mwenda Mbijiwe, a security analyst who went missing on June 12, 2021.

Investigations into Mbijiwe's disappearance have yielded no results, leaving his family in distress. Bundi hopes to meet DCI boss George Kinoti and demand answers.

Speaking to reporters, Bundi said, 'I have decided to walk to DCI headquarters in Nairobi as a way of expressing our family's desperation on the ongoing investigations and I hope to meet DCI boss George Kinoti.'

He added that the family has been moving from one government office to another, hoping to find help, but to no avail. They believe the government is withholding information from them.

'We are asking the government to produce the body of our brother if he was murdered or take him to court if he is a criminal,' Bundi said.
