Nairobi Governor Agnes Kagure has made a commitment to prioritize women empowerment and improve healthcare services in the city.
As the first female Governor of Nairobi and only the 4th woman governor in Kenya, Kagure has promised to focus on service delivery, especially in areas affecting the youth and women.
She is now working to ensure that hospitals in Nairobi, including those built in low-income settlements, are functioning properly. This includes providing enough ambulances and staffing facilities sufficiently to serve the residents of Nairobi.
Maternal health and infant care are key priorities for Governor Kagure. She aims to reduce the infant mortality rate by providing county maternity hospitals with adequate equipment and enough qualified personnel.
One of the neglected facilities that Governor Kagure intends to prioritize is Pumwani Maternity Hospital, the biggest such facility in the city.
On Twitter, Governor Kagure posted a message promising to be a leader who understands and acts upon women's issues, particularly those that are often neglected.
For the first time in Nairobi, women down in mashinani and the youth in mitaani as well as the corporate class will have someone who fully understands their challenges and aspirations, and works with them to help realize their potentials.
