A statement by Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) announcing a shortage of French Fries in Kenya has sparked a heated debate.

The multinational company attributed the shortage to delays in shipping lines due to the Covid-19 situation, with ships delayed for over a month.

However, the explanation did little to placate Kenyans, who took to social media to express their outrage and disappointment.

Many netizens criticized KFC for sourcing its potatoes from Egypt, despite local farmers struggling to sell their produce.

As a result, hundreds of Kenyans vowed to boycott KFC restaurants across the country, with some competitors capitalizing on the opportunity to promote their own French Fries.

Under mounting pressure, KFC's Chief Executive Officer Jacques Theunissen announced that the company would start buying potatoes from local farmers, but insisted that they must meet high standards.
