Fast charging has become a crucial feature in modern smartphones, with many users expecting their devices to charge quickly. However, the lack of standardization in fast charging technology has led to compatibility issues between different manufacturers.
According to a report, the Guangdong Terminal Association has been established in China, bringing together major technology companies such as Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Honor, and others. The association aims to promote standardization and integration of industrial resources to facilitate the adoption of fast charging technology.
As of 2021, the Information and Communication Institute of China had already pushed for the idea of unification, and by the end of the year, the Guangdong Terminal Association was established. This move is expected to simplify the process of fast charging, allowing users to charge their devices quickly and efficiently, regardless of the manufacturer.
One of the key objectives of the association is to reduce electronic waste and energy consumption. By establishing a unified standard, users will no longer need to purchase a new charger when switching to a different smartphone brand. This will lead to a significant reduction in the number of chargers being manufactured and disposed of.
The European Union has also taken steps to reduce electronic waste by proposing a universal charger that will work across all smartphones. This move is expected to force manufacturers to adopt a common charger, making it easier for users to switch between devices.
While it remains to be seen whether Chinese manufacturers will agree on a unified fast-charging system, the establishment of the Guangdong Terminal Association is a significant step towards simplifying the fast charging process and reducing electronic waste.
