Chelsea's £97.5m signing, Romelu Lukaku, has been at the center of controversy after expressing his displeasure at his progress since joining the club in August 2021.

Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has criticized Lukaku, stating that he has let down the team and undermined manager Thomas Tuchel.

The 28-year-old Belgian striker was dropped from Chelsea's team for their 2-2 draw with Liverpool after an interview emerged where he expressed his unhappiness at being a bit-part player.

Speaking to the media, Sutton said, 'What was the point of him doing the interview and causing unrest in the changing room?'

Lukaku returned to training on Monday, and it is understood that there is no intention from him or the club to part ways this January or next summer.

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards, however, defended Lukaku, stating that his comments were not as bad as people were making them out to be.

Richards said, 'A lot of his comments were more like when you are speaking to your mates.' He also added that Lukaku had slipped up by trying to be honest, but had not done it deliberately.
