EPRA Cracks Down on Petrol Stations Selling Adulterated Fuel

On January 4, 2022, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) released a list of 19 petrol stations found selling adulterated fuel in the local market.

According to EPRA, a total of 5,242 tests were conducted at 1,100 petroleum sites, with 98.27% of the sites found to be compliant. However, 19 sites were found to be non-compliant with EPRA regulations.

Some of the petrol stations were ordered to pay penalties, while others were closed permanently due to failure to comply with EPRA regulations.

  • Jabura Filling Station in Kibos, Kisumu County was ordered to pay Ksh108,618 for selling diesel meant for export.
  • Letesh Filling station in Gachie, Kiambu County was caught dealing in domestic kerosene and dilution was detected in domestic kerosene. EPRA closed it.
  • Al-Marshidy Filling Station in Wajir County was caught offering the sale of diesel containing high sulfur content and was shutdown.
  • And 16 other petrol stations were also found to be non-compliant.

EPRA has taken action against these petrol stations to ensure compliance with regulations and protect consumers from adulterated fuel.
