On Monday, six people lost their lives in an attack at Widhu Majembeni in Lamu. Five suspects are now in police custody, with authorities investigating the motive behind the attack.

According to National Police Service Spokesperson Bruno Shioso, the suspects are being questioned about the attack, which is believed to be linked to land disputes.

Shioso also revealed that the police are following leads to determine if the attack has any connections to the outlawed Al Shabaab militia.

Earlier on Tuesday, a person was burnt beyond recognition in an attack at Bobo-Hindi in Lamu County. The deceased has been identified as John Munji Gishoya.

Lamu County Commissioner Irungu Macharia stated that security agents have increased patrols in the area and are working to apprehend those involved in the attacks.

"The national government will not allow criminals to gain a foothold in the county," Macharia reiterated.

Local leaders have expressed their support for the national government's efforts to combat terror attacks in the region.

A backup team has been sent to the Widhu Majembeni area to investigate the attack and determine if land issues were a contributing factor.
