January 1, 2022, marked the beginning of the end for Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici's association with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
A video surfaced on Monday showing a crew painting over her UDA-branded office and removing UDA livery from her vehicles, effectively severing her ties with the party.
Ngirici's exit from UDA had been anticipated, especially after Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru joined the party. The two women are expected to battle it out for the top county position, with Ngirici feeling pushed out of the party she had financially supported from the early stages.
As a prominent financier of the UDA party, Ngirici had branded various campaign machinery, including a roadshow truck and her personal vehicles, in UDA colours.
She has since declared her intention to vie for the governor position as an independent candidate, stating, 'In 2022, I will not stand with any political party. I will seek to be elected as a governor, as an individual, and I'm confident that I will sail through.'
While not endorsing Ruto's opponent Raila Odinga, Ngirici urged her supporters to choose freely, effectively distancing herself from the Deputy President's campaign.
