On January 3, 2022, Deputy President William Ruto emphasized the importance of Kenyans electing their leaders freely in the 2022 general elections.

Speaking in Trans Nzoia County, Ruto stated that the era of imposing leaders on Kenyans for personal interests is over.

He urged Kenyans to reject leaders who are not chosen by them, saying that they will decide the next President come 2022.

Ruto also drummed up support for the bottom-up economic model, prioritizing turning around the country's economy and solving the unemployment crisis.

He criticized his competitors, claiming they lack an ideology on how to transform the lives of Kenyans.

“Kenyans will elect leaders who have an agenda to transform their lives, leaders who are focused on social and economic progress and those who are ready to serve the people,” he said.
