Breaking Stereotypes in Cosmetic Surgery ¶
Dr. Maria, a Kenyan facial aesthetic surgeon based in Romania, is on a mission to break stereotypes associated with cosmetic surgery and make non-invasive procedures accessible and affordable in Kenya.
Dr. Maria's journey began when she received a fully paid scholarship to study medicine in Romania in 2007. She completed her medical studies at the Carol Davilla Medical School in Bucharest between 2008-2014 and later specialized in ENT surgery at the Phono-audiology and Functional ENT institute Professor Dr Dorion Hociota between 2014-2019.
After finishing her residency, Dr. Maria started working at Cronos Med in Bucharest, where she currently works as an ENT surgeon with a sub-specialization in facial aesthetics. She is also in the process of opening her own clinic, Doctor B Cosmetic, in Bucharest, which will focus primarily on non-invasive head and neck procedures.
Dr. Maria's decision to venture into non-surgical cosmetic procedures was driven by her desire to break the stigma associated with surgical procedures and make aesthetic treatments more accessible and affordable. She believes that non-invasive procedures can enhance one's appearance without altering it, promoting a youthful look with minimal downtime and low risk of complications.
Dr. Maria's expertise includes rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, Botox, chemical peels, and facial fillers. She also practices baby Botox, a milder version of Botox, to achieve a more natural look. When asked about Jennifer Lopez's youthful appearance, Dr. Maria speculated that she might have undergone vampire facial or platelet-rich plasma therapy, regular liposuction, and breast augmentation.
Dr. Maria plans to open a facility in Nairobi and work with beautiful Kenyan women, flying in with a team from Romania every four months to perform non-invasive facial aesthetic procedures. In her free time, she enjoys dance classes, traveling, wine tasting, and cooking.
Dr. Maria believes that her honesty and transparency are her best qualities, and she is also quite disciplined. However, she can sometimes be impatient.
