On January 2, 2022, President Uhuru Kenyatta led the country in mourning the former attorney general Charles Mugane Njonjo, who died at 101 years old.

President Kenyatta acknowledged the debt of gratitude owed to Hon. Njonjo and his generation of independence era leaders for their selfless contribution to laying the foundation upon which the country continues to thrive.

Charles Njonjo served as the Attorney General of Kenya from 1964 to 1979 and played a significant role in shaping the country's legal framework.
