On Sunday, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua found himself at the center of a controversy after spreading false news about the 'death' of Kalonzo Musyoka's wife, Pauline Musyoka, on his official Twitter handle.

Published on January 2, 2022, the post sparked widespread outrage, with many condemning the governor's actions as reckless and irresponsible.

However, in a swift apology, Governor Mutua claimed that he had been misled by misinformation and a hoax from several players, including some who were close to Kalonzo Musyoka.

"I wish to apologize for the earlier post about the family of H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka. This was a result of misinformation and a hoax from several players, some, seemingly credible and close to H.E. Kalonzo, who made it seem like a message to me about the family," said the Machakos Governor.

He further apologized for any anxiety caused by his actions, stating, "People can be evil. My sincere apologies for any anxiety caused. Happily, all is well. God bless you," minutes after deleting his post.

SKM Head of Communications Paloma Gatabaki also weighed in on the issue, condemning the fake news and calling out those who spread it for their lack of remorse and regret.

"It is sad that the spinners of hateful, horrific and fake stories show no evidence of regret nor remorse for the damage they do," Gatabaki said.
