On December 31, 2021, Mwingi West Member of Parliament Charles Ngusya Nguna hosted a highly successful football tournament at Nguutani Secondary School, which brought together over 100 teams from the constituency.

The tournament culminated in a thrilling final match between MJS and Kitumbi FC, with Kitumbi FC emerging victorious after a 4-3 win in the penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw during regulation time.

Kitumbi FC's victory was not the only highlight of the tournament, as Kairungu Starlets won the women's category with a 2-1 win over Kavaliani Talents FC.

Nguna, who is also a member of the Parliamentary Sports Committee, expressed his delight at the success of the tournament, stating that several talented young players were spotted by scouts and will be given the opportunity to compete at the national level.

"Talent is there, but what they lack is a platform to showcase their prowess," Nguna said. "Next year, I will bring former internationals like Victor Wanyama, Dennis Oliech, and Boniface Ambani to play against the current crop of national team players in a final curtain raiser."

Nguna's own sporting prowess was also on display, as he collected four gold medals at the 2021 East Africa Inter-Parliamentary Games in Arusha, Tanzania, bringing his total to 14 gold medals since he started competing in 2017.
