On July 8, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto visited the home of the late Joe Kadenge in Nairobi to offer condolences to his family.

During the visit, Ruto reiterated the government's commitment to covering the funeral expenses of the fallen football legend, who passed away on July 7, 2019, at the age of 84.

"It is a great feat that one person can make such a big contribution to the game. Kadenge became synonymous with football in Kenya and we owe him a lot," Ruto said.

The government has pledged Sh5 million to cover the funeral expenses, which will be used to cater for the various activities planned by the family.

According to the family, a requiem mass will be held at Friends International Quakers Church on Ngong Road on July 17, followed by the body's departure from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on July 18, headed to Kisumu and then Musambai Location, Vihiga County for internment on July 20.
