Kenya's first post-independence Attorney General, Sir Charles Mugane Njonjo, left an indelible mark on the country's history. Born in 1920, he lived a life well-lived, spanning a century.

According to his family, Sir Charles passed away on Sunday morning, January 2, 2022. The cause of death was not immediately disclosed.

During his illustrious career, Sir Charles served as the Attorney General, Minister for Constitutional Affairs, and Kikuyu MP. He earned the nickname 'The Duke of Kabeteshire' for his stature and influence.

President Uhuru Kenyatta was among the leaders and Kenyans who sent their condolences to the family, mourning the loss of a national icon.
